Job overview

This post is Fixed term/Secondment until 22/8/2026 to cover maternity leave.

Maternity Leave 30 hours, over 4 days between the hours of Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4:30pm.

Base: Connah’s Quay Health Centre, Flintshire or Wrexham Maelor Hospital, depending upon applicant, with travel between the two areas.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual to take on this post within the established Cardiac Rehabilitation Service.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioner will work independently under the direction of the cardiac rehabilitation practitioners (Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Administrators, Dietitian, Pharmacist and Physiotherapists), to provide highly skilled support work. The role is varied and will include demonstration of physical activity, strengthening and exercise techniques to individuals and groups of patients in community settings – leisure centres, patients’ homes, community hospitals. Travel will be involved within Wrexham and Flintshire in a timely fashion. The post holder will be expected to gain further skills and will be supported to do so.

Main duties of the job

To work independently under the direction of cardiac rehabilitation practitioners – clinical specialist physiotherapist, nurse, occupational therapist, exercise professional - to support an efficient day-to-day running of the cardiac rehabilitation service by providing highly skilled support work. To contribute to the general running of the cardiac rehabilitation service.

To work under direction of the cardiac rehabilitation physiotherapist and cardiac rehabilitation practitioner but in an unsupervised capacity. To assist in the overall clinical and administrative management of patients.

To deliver routine physiotherapeutic and cardiac rehabilitation treatment programmes independently and progress treatments within guidelines and protocols. To be accountable for these tasks.

To participate in training of self and others to update and assist in service changes within designated area.

To be flexible and be prepared to work in other areas depending on service needs.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Hold a Quality Credit Framework Level 3 (NVQ level 3) exercise qualification or equivalent PLUS knowledge of cardiac conditions and or cardiac rehabilitation acquired through training and experience.
  • Understanding of physiotherapy assistant, physiotherapy and other AHP role in cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Up to date BACPR Level 4 Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Instructor qualification, or working towards, or agreement to complete
Desirable criteria
  • Courses for support workers/carers.
  • Other relevant further education e.g care or sport / exercise referral qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience as physiotherapy / AHP Assistant, exercise instructor or equivalent
  • Experience in dealing with variety of patients or people/clients in a variety of settings.
Desirable criteria
  • Working within the health /care/leisure setting
  • Experience of delivering exercise with groups of people
