Job overview
You need previous experience within a maintenance assistant role , including the ability to enable you to carry out the basic technical and practical work tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of complex engineering building services, plant and equipment including the diagnosis and repair of simple electrical and mechanical faults.
You will provide assistance to other maintenance craftsmen so as to enable them to fully carry out their duties.
Main duties of the job
Operational Estates are looking for an enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant in Engineering, who will be based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, but can expect to work at any of our community sites. You will have gained previous experience to enable you to carry out the grounds maintenance on healthcare properties, including Wrexham Maelor, community hospitals, health centres and clinics throughout Wrexham and Flintshire.
You may also be asked to provide assistance to engineering and building maintenance craftsmen so as to enable them to fully carry out their duties.
Annual leave allowance is 28 days up to 5 years service, 30 days between 5 and 10 years service and 34 days over 10 years service plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent training in an applicable discipline or equivalent level of knowledge and/or experience.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of CPD
- City and Guilds qualification in related field.
- Competence certificate in the use of various equipment appertaining to the service
- First aid training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working within an estates maintenance type environment in one of the applicable disciplines – electrical, mechanical, grounds etc
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working within the NHS.
- Use of relevant machinery and its maintenance
- Grounds Maintenance
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to undertake manual labour tasks
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and equipment

- IT/Keyboard skills

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Be able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of estates maintenance activities
- To be able to demonstrate a good understanding of engineering, building or grounds maintenance

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
