This exciting role will involve working within the Primary Care and Community services team and the wider IHC, supporting a team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in the community hospitals and GP practices, to manage medicine supplies, help ensure patients safety and improve patient outcomes. We are committed to developing the service Pharmacy provides and welcome applications from individuals who are keen to work towards the qualifications and requirements outlined in the band 3 job description.

You will need to be motivated, and passionate about patient care, be able to move between bases and have excellent communication skills to work with healthcare teams across the locality.

The postholder will work closely with acute sector, primary care and community pharmacy colleagues and based in the Community Services Team the focus of the roles will be to manage the medicines supplies (both acutely and ongoing) for the patients in East community hospitals.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

This is a higher-level Pharmacy Assistant role and will be ideal for a person looking to develop their skills and knowledge within an exciting and constantly developing area of pharmacy.

The main duties within this role include:

  • Assemble and dispense in-patient, outpatient and take home medication and to process controlled drug requisitions, following standard dispensary operating procedures. Competency based training will be given. Participate in the ward based medicines management service, assessing patients own medicines, and organising supplies.
  • Support the Pharmacy Logistics Service in providing safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.
  • Working within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.
  • Working as part of a team and work independently, using own initiative to deal with routine enquiries e.g availability and supply of medicines to wards, or patients, referring to the Pharmacy Technician or a Pharmacist if necessary.

Weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis will be required as part of the standard working hours. As an organisation, we promote flexible working to support staff wellbeing and the needs of the service.
