Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Band 4 Exercise Technical Instructor in the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team in Wrexham (East IHC).
We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and motivated individual who has the skills and ability to engage well with their patients and work both independently and as part of a team.
The successful candidate will work alongside qualified therapists, therapy assistants and admin staff. You will manage a varied caseload of musculoskeletal patients, with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. Working with post-operative orthopaedic patients is also part of the role, rehabilitating patients who have had joint replacements and ligament reconstructions for example.
You will be required to prescribe and deliver evidence-based exercise programmes which are tailored to patients’ needs and may include a combination of strength, cardio-vascular, flexibility and balance training. You will carry your own caseload of patients with supervision and support from qualified therapists.
Additionally, you will be involved in the organisation and leading of exercise classes.
The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of exercise prescription and implementing exercise and rehabilitation programmes.
Main duties of the job
To provide rehabilitative care for patients with chronic diseases, injuries or following orthopaedic surgery.
To assist the Physiotherapy team in the overall management of patients, working closely with other healthcare professionals, including Physiotherapists, GPs and therapy assistants.
To work independently using own initiative, within level of competence.
To manage and be responsible for own clinical caseload of clients, developing personalised exercise programmes in partnership with patients including goal setting.
To manage orthopaedic patients both individually and within classes following post-operative protocols.
To maintain electronic patient records for all patients.
To offer evidence-based education to patients regarding exercises and lifestyle modifications.
To implement, coordinate and supervise group exercise classes with the support of Physiotherapists.
To participate on an Orthopaedic weekend rota based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital rehabilitating post operative patients.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
