Acton Ward has an exciting opportunity available for a Health Care Support Worker to join our team.

The successful candidates will work within acute adult wards within the Medical Directorate caring for patients admitted into hospital

Acton Ward is a 15 bedded high care respiratory ward specialising in the provision of Acute & Domiciliary NIV at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must have an approachable manner necessary to deal with patients and their relatives and desirable experience of a hospital environment. Applicants will work as part of a team of nurses on the ward and undertake patient fundamentals of nursing care tasks under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered General Nurse responsible for the patient’s management.

Following an agreed level of training, NVQ level 2 & 3 in care, the successful candidate will be required to work internal rotation on the ward. Successful applicants will have an induction programme arranged for their orientation into the Medical team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ø  Assist the registered nurse/practitioner to deliver a high standard of holistic patient care, ensuring that the patients` dignity and equality is maintained at all times.

Ø  Ensure the principles set out in the fundamentals of care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure high quality service for patients and clients

Ø  Assist  the patients to maintain their own hygiene and personal appearance

Ø  To perform duties within the plan of care delegated by a qualified practitioner, only for which he/she has the relevant training and assessment

Ø  Prepare ward/clinical area for receiving patients by ensuring area is generally clean and tidy – assist in maintaining the standards in the clinical area and report any untidiness/clutter to the appropriate person.

Ø  Assist in the admission of new patients into the department by preparing bed/trolley area, welcoming patient, directing to bed/other area, showing patient around the ward.

Ø  Complete patient menu cards involving patients in the process, taking in to account any dietary instructions as identified by qualified nurse.

Ø  Participate in protected mealtime for patients by ensuring patients receive their meals/beverages in a timely and safe manner, ensuring hands are washed and the environment is conducive to mealtimes e.g. preparing bed area.

Ø  Participate in the serving of patients’ meals by cutting up food where required, opening packets, helping patients to sit up,
