Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Pharmacy team at HMP Berwyn. This unique setting provides elements of Primary Care, Hospital and Community pharmacy. As a Senior Prison Pharmacist within the HMP Berwyn team, you will have the opportunity to develop a truly excellent, person-centred care pharmacist service at HMP Berwyn.
As Senior Prison Pharmacist your role will be to work within the Pharmacy team whilst working with a multi-disciplinary team, including working very closely with the GPs and Psychiatrists to ensure safe and effective prescribing. You will look after patients with long term conditions, mental health problems and substance misuse problems.
Main duties of the job
Provide a safe and effective specialist pharmacy service to prisoners at HMP Berwyn.
Undertake professional and clinical pharmacist’s duties in the prison pharmacy dispensary as per rota.
Provides expert pharmaceutical advice and support within both primary and secondary care services as required.
Develop, encourage and promote evidence-based, cost effective use of medicines.
To be involved in the training of diploma, pre-registration and other pharmacists within the HMP Berwyn’s pharmacy.
Assist in providing clinical training and supervision of other pharmacy staff.
To be involved in the development and delivery of practice research
To comply with GPhC standards and work within HMP Berwyn and BCUHB’s identified policies, protocols and guidelines and comply with the security requirements at all times.
Work in partnership with service users, other health and social care colleagues and services internal and external to HMP Berwyn, including the HMPPS staff as appropriate, to achieve the optimum health outcome for service users and contributing to reducing reoffending pathways.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MPharm degree or equivalent
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Post Graduate MSc/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Must be able to demonstrate suitable level of experience working in the managed sector and/or community pharmacy
- Good communicator, motivated, able to work as part of a team
Desirable criteria
- Experience of patient-orientated medicines systems
