Job overview

We are seeking an exceptional Advanced Practitioner in Moving, Handling and Positioning to play a pivotal, organisation-wide role in shaping safer, more effective care. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced clinician to operate at the highest level of advanced practice, combining expert clinical judgement with strategic leadership, education and quality improvement.

You’ll work across services to embed consistent, evidence-based approaches, influence practice at scale, and act as the go-to specialist for complex moving, handling and postural management challenges.

Delivering impact from day one, you’ll combine hands-on expertise with leadership, managing complex cases while driving improvements that reduce harm, enhance patient experience, and strengthen staff safety and confidence.

Through your subject matter expertise you will have a strong voice to shape training, policy development, and continuous improvement whilst helping to create a culture of learning and excellence in moving, handling and postural management. This is a role where your expertise will truly make a difference, supporting teams to improve care for individuals, families and communities every day.

Main duties of the job

  • Work autonomously to assess and manage patients with complex moving, handling and positioning needs, including multi-pathology and high-risk cases.
  • Hold a specialist caseload, providing expert assessment, intervention and equipment solutions to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Act as a point of escalation, offering expert clinical advice and decision-making, and ensure consistent, evidence-based, person-centred practice across all settings.
  • Lead organisation-wide improvements in moving and handling, embedding high-quality and consistent practice.
  • Drive quality improvement to reduce harm, enhance patient safety and support staff wellbeing.
  • Advise senior leaders on service development, risk and compliance, and collaborate with partners to benchmark and share best practice.
  • Lead training and workforce development to ensure staff competence and confidence.
  • Act as an educator, coach and mentor, fostering continuous learning. Contribute to strategic learning priorities and develop competency frameworks to support practice development.
  • Lead audit, evaluation and improvement activity to ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Analyse data to identify risks and measure impact. Apply research to enhance care and identify opportunities for innovation and knowledge sharing.
