Job overview

We are seeking an outstanding Director of Nursing/Deputy Chief Nursing  Officer to join our senior leadership team on a six-month secondment. This is a rare opportunity for an inspirational senior nurse leader to influence nursing practice, quality and workforce innovation across our organisation and Integrated Care System.

Working closely with and deputising for the Chief Nursing & Allied Health Officer,  you will provide visible professional leadership across nursing, driving high standards of care, patient safety and experience. You will lead key portfolios including clinical governance, safeguarding, infection prevention and control, workforce, and professional standards, and play a central role in our CQC relationship and system partnerships.

If you are a credible, values-led leader with the vision and presence to inspire teams and deliver impact at pace, we would love to hear from you.

While this post is advertised at Band 9, we would also welcome applications from experienced senior nurse leaders currently operating at Band 8d who are seeking a development opportunity. In these circumstances, appointment would be made at the appropriate band, aligned to experience and the level of responsibility undertaken.

As stated this can be a secondment or a fixed term post, we are looking for someone who can join us immediately.  Informal discussions are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide visible, professional leadership across Nursing professions.
Lead on professional standards, clinical governance, patient safety and quality.
  • Maintain and strengthen our relationship with the NMC, acting as the primary link for fitness to practise matters.
  • Influence strategic planning, workforce development and service transformation across Sirona.
  • Champion safe, high‑quality, equitable and person‑centred care.
Build strong partnerships with higher education providers, system partners and national bodies.
  • Support and, when required, represent the CNAHO at Board, executive committees and system‑level forums.
  • Lead key portfolios including safeguarding, patient experience, infection prevention & control, risk, compliance, and CQC relationship management.
  • Foster a compassionate, inclusive culture that attracts, develops and retains a diverse workforce.
