Job overview

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated B7 Clinical Psychologist to join us at York's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services also based in the city of York. 

The post holder will provide assessment and treatment to our young people and their families of York and work alongside an established and committed team providing a psychology lens to our teams practice and development.  You will have opportunity to work alongside a wide variety of professionals including a supportive and experienced Psychology team.

We invite applications from suitably qualified Clinical Psychologists. The successful candidate will be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council.

Main duties of the job

Our team includes psychologists, family therapists, nurses, psychiatrists and social workers. Therefore, the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team is a requirement. 

The post holder will provide evidence based assessment and treatment interventions as part of the mental health pathways, and offer input to individuals, their families and carers in a clinic setting. The candidate will also provide supervision and support to the team in developing our practice.  

You will be expected to have the necessary skills and experience to undertake direct clinical work with children and families, offer clinical supervision and consultation, contribute to service evaluation, as well as manage the demands of service development and change. Candidates should be skilled psychological professionals with excellent interdisciplinary working skills and interested in contributing to the development of an innovative service.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Trained in clinical supervision (within agreed timescale)
  • Trained in care co-ordination (within agreed timescale)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model
  • Registration with BPS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with mental health/learning disability clients (depending on designated service area)
  • Multi-disciplinary team working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of CBT, DBT, Psychodynamics, systemic therapy
  • Experience of research and audit

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence- based practice relevant to the role
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Audit and research methodology

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Communicate complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
  • Adapt creatively the evidence base for interventions in mental health for clients with communication difficulties / learning disabilities.
  • Provide (within agreed timescale) effective teaching, training and clinical supervision
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake care co-ordination/lead practitioner responsibilities
  • Undertake complex multiagency working and liaise with multiple systems
  • Utilise psychometric tests competently
  • Identify, provide and promote appropriate interventions / means of support for carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and challenging behaviours.
  • Utilise appropriate clinical governance mechanisms within own work.
