NHS AfC: Band 7
We are the Mental Health & Learning Disability NHS Trust for County Durham and Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York and Selby.
From education and prevention, to crisis and specialist care —our talented and compassionate teams work in partnership with our patients, communities and partners to help the people of our region feel safe, understood, believed in and cared for.
We nurture the recovery journey of anyone in need of our help. In Our Trust, everyone has a say in how they are supported and treated because we listen to every person in our care until they feel understood. Our patients, their families and carers work together with us towards better mental health.
We’re committed to new thinking that improves the wellbeing of our region. We connect with our communities and partners to get mental health care right, in areas that really need it.
We won’t rest until everyone in our region has the mental health care they need, to lead their best possible life.
Job overview
We are delighted to offer a part time (32 hours) opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Family Intervention Rapid Support Team (FIRST), here in the wonderful City of York.
FIRST is a specialist Clinical Psychology led service that supports families with children/ young people who have a learning disability and/or autism spectrum condition, alongside the most complex behavioural presentations.
FIRST provides intensive holistic assessment and intervention to meet the needs of the child and family.
FIRST is a collaborative initiative between CAMHS and Children’s Social Care. The collaborative approach helps to bring together local professionals and providers in order to maximise expertise and provide wrap-around, consistent support.
FIRST aims to support children to remain at home and in their local communities, reducing the need for inpatient mental health admissions or residential school placement provision (which is often many miles away from children’s families).
If you are interested in working in a busy and challenging environment with a commitment to provide exceptional clinical practice, then this could be the role for you.
We welcome opportunities to meet with all interested candidates prior to application or interview so feel free to contact our service to discuss the role further.
Main duties of the job
To provide a flexible and accessible approach to meeting the emotional wellbeing needs of vulnerable children and young people. This means appointments can take place wherever the young person feels safe, such as at home, school or college, or in another setting if this is their preference.
To enhance the capacity of those caring for and working with vulnerable children and young people on the edge of care, to do so in an attuned and psychologically informed way. It will also work therapeutically with carers and professionals, individually to support and develop their capacity to provide an attuned response and to facilitate relational safety.
Working with the child, young person, family and wider networks is central to the psychological work in the partnership. Together we work to enable a reflective/responsive, rather than a reactive approach. This service approach empowers the team around the child to facilitate confidence in reflective practice, to enable containment and consistency, and to acknowledge and understand a range of perspectives whilst remaining creative and flexible. This approach will deliver a safe, psychologically informed whole systems approach.
Working for our organisation
With a generous NHS pension scheme, a fantastic annual leave package (27 days annual leave plus bank holidays) and access to other NHS staff benefits and discounts and, it’s not just the NHS pay scale and benefits that we offer that make joining our organisation an excellent choice, there are many development opportunities available, giving you the opportunity for career progression.
All staff have regular 1-2-1s, which provides lots of opportunity for discussion around achievements, challenges and aspirations.
Staff recognition is very important to us; we work closely with colleagues from across the Trust to support development.
Our organisation is on a ‘Journey to Change’ and as part of this journey, creating a great experience for our staff is one of three big goals. Ultimately, our aim is to be a proactive, responsible and mindful employer; recruiting, retaining and training our people, for the right roles, at the right time.
