Job overview
This is an exciting, high impact leadership role at the forefront of transforming mental health support for children and young people across North Yorkshire and York. We are seeking an innovative, creative and dynamic Advanced Clinical Specialist to lead our Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs), known locally, and proudly named by children and young people, as our Wellbeing in Mind Teams (WiMT).
With MHSTs entering a period of rapid national expansion, aiming to provide support to 100% of state funded education settings by 2030, this post offers a rare opportunity to influence the direction of service development on a large scale. You will play a pivotal role in reviewing, redesigning and shaping our offer over the coming years, ensuring that WiMT continues to deliver high quality, trauma informed, relational and evidence based care while also evolving creatively to meet future demand.
Your base may be any TEWV CAMHS location within North Yorkshire and York, and you must be able to drive and work across varied education and community settings.

Main duties of the job
In this role, you will provide visible and expert clinical leadership to WiMTs, ensuring high quality, consistent and evidence based interventions across our education settings. You will play a central part in shaping how our service expands and adapts in the lead up to 2030, requiring a leader who is forward thinking, creative, and confident in driving innovation while maintaining safe and effective core practice. Working closely with Community Matrons, education partners, commissioners and CAMHS colleagues, you will foster strong integrated relationships and ensure that the service’s clinical standards remain robust, compassionate and aligned with our Trust values.
A key facet of the role involves delivering advanced clinical oversight, safeguarding leadership, and the supervision and development of staff across the teams. You will actively contribute to and lead quality audits as a member of the Fundamental Standards Forum, making sure learning is embedded and improvements are sustained. Through reflective practice, training and mentorship, you will help develop a confident, resilient workforce that is able to thrive in a growing and fast moving service environment. You will also play a leading role in service planning, data informed improvement, partnership development and representing WiMT at local, regional and national levels

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will have responsibility for shaping and overseeing the development of consistent, evidence based clinical pathways across WiMT, ensuring that practice remains high quality, trauma informed and relational. You will use clinical data, operational insight and national guidance to drive continuous improvement, supporting the redesign and enhancement of service models as WiMT expands into new schools and colleges. Working alongside Community Matrons, you will ensure that clinical governance, safety and quality standards are met and exceeded, and that children, young people and families are actively involved in shaping their care.
You will provide advanced clinical decision making support in complex cases, oversee safeguarding processes, and ensure that incidents, complaints and feedback lead to meaningful learning. The role involves supporting strategic and operational decision-making through the preparation of high quality reports, presentations and contributions to business cases and service proposals. You will help nurture a skilled, confident and values driven workforce through supervision, reflective practice, performance support and by modelling inclusive, compassionate leadership. You will also champion strong partnership working with education providers, the Integrated Care Board, commissioners and wider system partners, ensuring WiMT is recognised as a credible, collaborative and innovative service.
You will bring significant experience at Band 7 or above in children and young people’s mental health services, with a background in early intervention, relational or embedded models of delivery. You will be registered with a relevant professional body (such as NMC, HCPC or Social Work England) and will be able to clearly demonstrate advanced clinical skills through both accredited postgraduate training and substantial applied clinical practice. You will be confident working autonomously as an advanced practitioner and able to apply highly developed clinical judgement in complex situations. You will also be someone who thrives on innovation and creative thinking, able to help lead the development of a rapidly expanding service while ensuring consistently high standards of care. To undertake this role effectively, you must be able to travel independently across North Yorkshire and York.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registration with relevant professional body. (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England)
- For nursing professions – Recognised Practice Supervisor and /or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent
- For other professions – evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/ trainees.
- All professions - Postgraduate diploma (or above) in a subject relevant to the area of practice
- Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behavioural Therapy/Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
- *Note any other advanced qualification/masters credits not listed here as an example, must be clearly evidenced and listed as “advanced qualification or masters credits” - within the individuals application form And have Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master’s level such as working as a band 7 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
