Job overview

An exciting opportunity exists for two enthusiastic, suitably qualified, experienced, and self-motivated Server & Cloud Infrastructure Architects.  As an Infrastructure Architect you will be responsible for the technical solutions design of systems and services across our cloud & on-premise infrastructure which underpin all our clinical and business systems.

Working as a key member of the Server & Cloud Infrastructure team within the ICT department, the successful candidate will lead a team on the development, installation, and on-going operational management and support of the Health Board’s server infrastructure and datacentres.

The successful candidate will have exposure to a wide range of subjects and technologies in the ever-changing landscape of ICT.

The role will primarily involve working remotely from home. However, the candidate’s official office shall be one of Abergele Hospital, Bangor Hospital or Wrexham Maelor Hospital. They may also be expected to attend any BCU site where physical server infrastructure (or associated appliances) resides, as and when necessary and at short notice, in line with working practices.

Main duties of the job

The post holder should be able to demonstrate advanced methodical system design and interpersonal skills in order to ensure that assigned projects are progressed in a clear and collaborative manner. Excellent trouble shooting abilities are required to provide technical support to departmental colleagues and maintain regular communications with 3rd party providers where necessary.

Ideally, the post holder should have a relevant degree and/or industry recognised qualification(s), and /or extensive equivalent experience of many of the following:

  • Datacentre Management
  • System and Application Architecture Design
  • Capacity Planning
  • VMWare
  • Storage Area Networks
  • Cyber Security Software
  • Client Endpoint Management
  • Cloud Technologies (e.g., M365 / Azure)
  • Application & Database Management (e.g., SQL)
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning

Additionally, the post holder should have excellent skills in the following areas:

  • Technical project management,
  • In depth and complex trouble shooting
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Staff Management

The post holder may be asked to work across all BCUHB sites and locations, therefore the ability to access transport (public and/or private) to travel off site is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
