Main duties of the job

General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) are looking for a friendly, reliable, hardworking housekeeper to support staff and patients. GICU is a designated major trauma centre and is currently a 31 bedded facility. 

This role is vital to ensure the department is maintained in line with Trust standards, ensuring all infection control policies are adhered to, as well as stock rotation and management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the position will include:

•    The post holder will work as an integral part of the nursing team to co-ordinate non-clinical patient services / facilities in the ward area and ensure the ward is a clean, safe and comfortable environment. 

•    To support nursing staff in upholding and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in ward food / beverage areas and at the patients’ bedside for the consumption of meals, snacks and drinks.

•    The post holder will work under the supervision and guidance of the ward manager / nurse in charge during the clinical shift

Person specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to work towards
  • Customer Service experience
  • Demonstrate ability to work autonomously
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Housekeeping experience
  • Knowledge of, or training in, manual handling techniques
  • Understanding of, or training in, COSHH
