Job overview

This post is Fixed term/Secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service.

An opportunity has arisen for temporary Band 5 Registered Children’s Nurses to join the nursing team on the Children's Unit for 12 months to cover maternity leaves.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic staff with a passion to work with children and their families.

The Children's Unit consists of 19 inpatient beds including 1 High Dependency bed, 3 Enhanced Care beds.

We also have 6 Assessment unit beds, 6 medical/surgical day case beds and 2 Oncology beds.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.

Assist in the management and organisation of their clinical area and participating in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

  • Registered Children’s Nurse

  • Evidence of further study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of acute children’s nursing
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team/ with other agencies

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess needs of the child / plan, implement and evaluate care efficiently and effectively under the direction of Nurse in Charge
  • Ability to communicate information to team members/ parents/ relatives, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to develop clinical skills.
Desirable criteria
  • I T Skills - Understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and seek assistance when appropriate
  • Welsh speaker

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of nursing care of children and young people
  • Understanding of Safeguarding policy and procedures
