Job overview

A Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant is required to join our dynamic, community adult learning disability physiotherapy team. The successful applicant will assist the Physiotherapists working with adults with a learning disability across the Flintshire and occasionally Wrexham in a variety of settings including homes, day centres and clinics.

Reporting to senior physiotherapists, the post will involve a wide range of clinical duties including assisting therapists in delivering group and individual therapy programmes. On instruction from a qualified physiotherapist, the physiotherapy technical instructor will carry out individual and group sessions with adults without direct supervision but under the direction of a qualified physiotherapist. This will include assisting in group treatment sessions, supervised and unsupervised moving, handling and positioning, assessment and treatment sessions, individual exercise programmes, mobility assessments, and provision of minor aids and teaching in their safe use e.g. wheeled walking frame. Supervision will be provided. Applicants should ideally have prior experience of working with adults with disabilities in a care setting and have a clear understanding of the work of a physiotherapist with adults with a learning disability.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the community adult learning disability physiotherapy team to deliver and maintain a high standard of patient care to adults in community settings across Flintshire and occasionally Wrexham by undertaking delegated clinical programmes of management and some administrative duties to support the functioning of the department. The specific clinical and administrative duties vary according to the setting.

The post-holder must be able to help prioritise their own workload, demonstrating efficient time management and the ability to work with adults with a wide variety of additional learning and physical needs. The post involves a high level of contact with many other professionals as well as family and carers, not only via the telephone and written correspondence, but also face-to-face contact. The post-holder must therefore show excellent communication skills and a high degree of diplomacy, tact and patience.

A comprehensive development programme is available to the candidate in the form of regular support and direct training, regular supervision and internal and external training opportunities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
