Band 6 Psychosexual Therapist (Part Time 15 hours per week)

**The job is advertised for 15 hours per week but there is the potential for this to be up to 19 hours.**

The Psychosexual Therapist will provide specialist assessment, brief intervention and evidence-based psychosexual therapy to individuals and couples referred to the Psychosexual Therapy Service within the Florey Clinic.

Working autonomously as part of the Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) service, the post holder will deliver focused therapeutic interventions across Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire, using a brief, solution focused model to support clients experiencing sexual dysfunction, relationship difficulties and related psychological concerns.

The role requires highly developed communication skills, robust clinical judgement and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, GPs and external agencies to ensure safe, effective and person-centred care.

Main duties of the job

The Psychosexual Therapy Service is based with the Contraception and Sexual Health (CaSH) service in the Florey Clinic.

The service has a main hub in Reading and has satellite clinics in Wokingham and West Berkshire.

The service accepts patients from Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham. The service can offer up to six appointments to clients including the initial assessment, by necessity, the service has to adopt a brief, solution-focused approach through a variety of delivery methods.

In your role you will utilise highly-developed communication skills, specialist knowledge and therapeutic experience to deliver focused intervention programmes for patients attending the Psychosexual Therapy Service.

There is the possibility for you to work in a hybrid model between sites and your home location.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Psychosexual qualification to degree/masters level or above, accredited by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapy (CORST)
  • Experience working with couples and individuals
Desirable criteria
  • Further formal and relevant post qualification training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of providing counselling of relationship problems/issues of sexual dysfunctions/sexual behaviours requiring counselling
  • Experience of working in health, social care, or education services in a therapeutic or supportive capacity
  • Experience working online and face-to-face
Desirable criteria
  • Skills in group therapy
  • Experience working in psychological services within the NHS

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Skills in assessment of and therapy for sexual dysfunctions
  • Able to establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and alliances as well as work within a six session therapy model and establish boundaries as needed
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Ability to actively listen to and hear peoples issues and concerns. Ability to communicate difficult, complex and contentious information in a way that is heard and understood
