Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (Vascular Access Team)

**Full Time and Part Time hours available - shifts are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 18:00.**

(Some flexibility may be required to meet patient needs).

The vascular access team operate over multiple sites, with procedure space in Bracknell Healthspace as well as Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Vascular Access Team.

The team provides specialist support for patients requiring vascular access devices such as PICC lines, Midlines, and other central venous catheters. They additionally provide teaching and education to teams and patients trust-wide.

The vascular access team cover all inpatients and outpatients for a variety of lines and troubleshooting issues. The role includes assisting with line insertions, aftercare and troubleshooting of lines. Use of the ultrasound,  IV cannulation and phlebotomy, with training provided.

The role will involve working across multiple sites.

The role will also include undertaking administrative tasks including preparing referrals, overseeing stock, updating computer records, communicating with patients, transferring patients and answering general enquiries and monitoring of these devices/records to ensure safe and effective treatment for patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support registered nurses and vascular access specialists in the preparation and insertion of patients receiving vascular access devices.
  • Assist with routine care of vascular access sites with the nursing team.
  • Prepare equipment and ensure the environment is clean, safe, and fully stocked for vascular access procedures.
  • Provide basic education and reassurance to patients and carers regarding vascular access device care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of devices and surveillance documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement.
  • Support infection prevention and control policies within the service.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within a hospital or community nursing team.
  •  Ability to follow clear clinical guidelines and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Good communication skills and a caring approach to patient care.
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of vascular access care and related procedures.
  •  Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic IT skills for documentation purposes.

Training and Development:

  • Opportunities will be provided to develop your skills in vascular access care, including training on device types, infection control, and patient communication.
  • Support from experienced clinical staff including Clinical Nurse Specialists and senior nurses.
