Job overview
It is an exciting time to join Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust with the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital recently opened. The Haematology Ward has 16 state of the art purpose built ensuite rooms for our patients.
The Haematology team are looking for experienced, dynamic and motivated Haematology nurses to join us for this adventure. Our ideal candidate will have experience in caring for patients with all types of Haematology diseases; they will have excellent communication skills, be able to take charge of the ward in the absence of the ward manager, and be competent in cannulation, phlebotomy and administration of chemotherapy.
We take a keen interest in the development of our staff, and an induction and development programme will be tailored to your needs and ambitions. This may include attendance at National Study Days, Conferences and Post registration courses, as well as our in house teaching programme.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will be responsible for:
Leading a team of experienced and junior nurses to care for patients in an acute setting. Working alongside the band 7 and acting as deputy when required too, to ensure the smooth running and maintaining a safe environment for colleagues and patients.
- Care of the admitted Haematology patients
- Assessment of patient pre chemotherapy
- Safe administration of SACT and supportive therapies
- Management of neutropenic sepsis
- Management of chemotherapy toxicities
- Acute clinical skills
- Prioritising patient care
- Ability to work a flexible shift pattern
- Ability to lead a team
