Job overview

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified Respiratory Physiologist on a permanent contract. They will join our friendly team at the Lung Function Unit, Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.

It would be an ideal opportunity for someone who has recently qualified or just completing BSc Clinical Physiology (respiratory).

The department offers a wide range of both routine and specialist respiratory investigations.

You should ideally be ARTP registered or applying for it, have experience working in respiratory physiology particularly in specialist areas.

Please note, shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a face-to-face interview at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, England.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to perform a range of diagnostic procedures on patients within a specialised physiology setting such as full lung function tests, challenge testing, sleep studies, muscle pressures and field exercise tests to greatly assist with the day to day running of the service.

These tests will be primarily performed as an outpatient basis on the adult population.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Clinical Science/Physiology or relevant scientific degree Or
  • Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprenticeship Or
  • Level 4 Healthcare science associate Apprenticeship and Practitioner Training Programme Equivalence
Desirable criteria
  • ARTP Part 1 and Part 2 Assessment Or ARTP Practitioner examination Or equivalent experience
  • Registered or be eligible for the AHCS registration.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience working within respiratory physiology & healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of specialised respiratory investigations.
  • Knowledge of respiratory diseases and their effects on respiratory function.
  • Be able to work unsupervised & demonstrate ability to work as an independent practitioner.
  • Good evaluation skills for decision making process during tests.
  • Experience in performing full lung function & basic sleep investigations.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching/supervising others.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Can perform a range of basic and specialised lung function tests without supervision.
  • Demonstrate laboratory maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures.
  • Demonstrate highly developed skills for use of equipment.
  • Ability to interpret basic lung function tests.
  • Able to present data and information in a concise format.
  • Able to prepare reports for clinical colleagues.
  • Basic computer / keyboard skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Can understand limitations of the role and the need to refer to others.
