Job overview

Locum Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with interest in Trauma/ Facial deformity Surgery (Relocation Support* offered)
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust

Join us at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) as a Locum Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) with a specialist interest in Trauma and potential to transition to Orthognathic practice if the post is extended.

This exciting 10.25 (11.25 if on call is included) PA, 18-month post is part of our department’s expansion to meet the growing demand for our renowned regional specialist services. We are looking to develop a strong succession plan within our department. With the potential to transition to a substantive role, this is an incredible opportunity to become a key player in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team at the forefront of regional OMFS care.

You will join a team of 8 consultants who are an open minded and diverse group with a wealth of experience obtained by training both nationally and internationally. Most importantly we are a friendly, cohesive and collaborative group with high professional standards, an excellent reputation within the hospital and have a broad range of clinical and outside interests. We have a 100 % retention rate for substantive positions for more than 20 years.

Main duties of the job

•    Main-stream general OMFS such as new patient and 2WW clinics.
•    Participate in the Pan Avon on-call rota (1:8), managing the full remit of OMFS trauma with a strong, tiered three level support structure, including doubly qualified StRs and dentally qualified DCTs.
•    Weekly trauma MDT clinic and in-patient theatre list on main hospital site.
•    Full integration and collaboration within our OMFS unit.
•    Potential to integrate the applicant into the orthognathic service with a graduated level of operating, allowing mentorship with the existing orthognathic team.

About You
•    We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual with broad expertise across the OMFS spectrum, including trauma, and with a particular passion for hard tissue surgery. You will thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and will be expected to bring a proactive approach to delivering outstanding patient care. A fellowship would be highly desirable to address the complex case mix and further enhance our specialist services.

Additional Benefits
•    *Relocation Support: Subject to conditions, you may be eligible for relocation expenses to help you settle in Bristol, a vibrant city offering an outstanding quality of life.
•    Future Opportunities: The intention of the existing consultant group is that after the initial 18-month period, for the correct candidate, there is potential for the post to convert to a substantive position.
