Job overview
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Paediatric Surgery at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH). This 8.5 PA post is in the first instance for a 12 month period to fill current gaps in the service and support the waiting list.
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic excellent Clinician to join the department and team of seven Consultants, of whom five are Paediatric General Surgeons and two are Paediatric Urologists. The post is to commence as soon as possible.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will provide cover for emergency paediatric surgery, including neonatal surgery, when on-call (1:7 rota). The successful applicant will also support the service with waiting list initiatives, in terms of both operative lists and out-patient clinics.
You will be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT in Paediatric Surgery or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
The appointee will provide clinical leadership, specialist advice and multi-disciplinary management of children and young people with paediatric general surgical conditions within Children’s Services, the Trust and across the region.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
