Senior Abdominal Perfusion Practitioner

Band 7

Job overview

Do you want to contribute to world class outcomes for transplant patients?

The Abdominal Perfusion Practitioner team at CUH are pivotal in ensuring abdominal transplant patients continue to receive world class care. The team expertly support the abdominal transplant programme at CUH through the independent provision of machine perfusion procedures during key aspects of organ procurement, assessment and transplantation.

Utilisation of highly specialised autonomous clinical practice alongside exceptional communication skills ensure that the Abdominal Perfusion Practitioner team actively contributes to the world class outcomes our transplant patients deserve.

If you have a background in transplantation and/or theatres and are passionate about making a real difference for patients with end stage organ failure then this could be the job for you.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

Your main focus will be to undertake the following clinical procedures under the supervision and direction of the surgical transplant team:

•       Normothermic regional perfusion during deceased organ donation

•       Ex-situ normothermic or hypothermic perfusion of organs to allow recovery and assessment of deceased donor organs using designated ex situ perfusion machines

•       Veno-venous bypass during organ transplantation and complex hepatobiliary procedures

You will undertake appropriate training and assessment in the competencies required to undertake the above procedures with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge. Competency will be consistently assessed until all aspects of the role are fully met. After full competency has been met and agreed by peers, you will then progress to be signed off as competent to complete solo on-call.

In addition to the above, you will draw on your current skills and knowledge to undertake further clinical duties associated with transplantation.

Research:

You will contribute to new and ongoing research whilst undertaking their clinical activities by means of accurate data collection during perfusion in line with written protocols and procedures.
