NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Have you considered building on your previous experience by joining an exciting and innovative working environment?

This presents an exceptional opportunity for a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and further develop their expertise in Oncology under the guidance of a highly motivated and enthusiastic team. This is a substantive role.

You will be responsible for providing leadership within the general field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with the potential to lead the cancer service within the specialty.

You will have the opportunity to enhance your experience by sharing your experience and learning from the teams while undertaking sessions at both Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Peterborough City Hospital. Both hospitals have fully equipped obstetric, and midwifery-led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high-risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services.

You will be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register with ATSM in Oncology/Benign Gynecology, and Hysteroscopy and Colposcopy.

We are a Postgraduate Medical Education Centre with a reputation for teaching and training with strong links with Leicester and Cambridge.

We are committed to your well-being and personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitment is 10 PAs (8.5 DCC+ 1.5 SPA) including both outpatient and theatre where additional SPAs can be considered depending on additional roles undertaken. The job plan will be reviewed on an annual basis.

You will be required to participate in on-call activities at Gynaecology and/or Obstetrics.

You will work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard and to develop and maintain good working practices in the management of Gynaecology patients. You will ensure effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service through positive collaboration with colleagues.

As a lead consultant, you will provide one-stop hysteroscopy services and leadership in training juniors, and colposcopy services as well as collaborate in MDT/ Colposcopy meetings and provide clinical input and leadership for the speciality.

In conjunction with colleagues, you will contribute to the development of the services as well as provide teaching and guidance to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

You will comply with the Trust’s Clinical Governance policy, including clinical risk management, support and lead audit projects and liaise with the other consultant staff on the development and implementation of protocols and guidelines for patient care.
