Job overview
The Sarcoma Service at Velindre Cancer Services provides highly specialist systemic therapy and radiotherapy care for patients with soft tissue and bone sarcoma across Southeast Wales. Approximately 40–50 new sarcoma referrals are received annually, including 4–5 teenage and young adult (TYA) patients who are managed in collaboration with the Teenage and Young Adult Unit at the University Hospital of Wales.
This new post has been established to maintain service stability and continuity. The Specialist Grade Doctor will work as part of the multidisciplinary Sarcoma Team to deliver high-quality oncology care, within a clear governance framework and with defined consultant supervision.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
· Provide clinical assessment, treatment, and follow-up for patients with soft tissue and bone sarcoma in accordance with MDT decisions and agreed protocols.
· Prescribe, monitor, and review systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) within approved Velindre Cancer Centre protocols.
· Participate in the weekly South Wales Sarcoma MDT and contribute to treatment planning.
· Liaise with referring clinicians, the TYA service at UHW, and other tertiary partners to ensure coordinated patient care.
· Review treatment toxicities and escalate complex or atypical cases for consultant review.
· Support delivery of sarcoma clinical trials in collaboration with the Clinical Trials team.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with licence to practise
- Knowledge of oncology principles and systemic anti-cancer therapy
- Understanding of MDT working and sarcoma treatment pathways
Desirable criteria
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate qualification
- Higher degree (MD, PhD) or equivalent research experience
- Knowledge of clinical trial processes and governance
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in oncology, in-line with eligibility for the grade
- Experience in outpatient-based oncology management
- Participation in clinical audit, teaching, and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Experience in sarcoma or rare cancer management
- Experience in delivering systemic anti-cancer therapy independently within governance frameworks
