Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Specialist Audiology Practitioner to join the Hywel Dda University Health Board Audiology Service.  This would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced Band 5 Audiologist looking for career progression.  This is a health board wide position  but the successful candidate will be primarily based in the county of  Ceredigion. The role work will focus on both adult and paediatric diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Practitioner in Audiology will provide adult and paediatric specialist assessment and rehabilitation within Clinical Audiology services. This will involve leading individual care planning and delivery as an Independent Practitioner.

Additionally, the Specialist Practitioner will lead specific areas of scientific activity, as allocated by more senior colleagues. This will include contribution to service development activity, audit, research and delivery of in-house continuing professional development activity and interagency work. 

The specialist practitioner will contribute to the training and supervision of more junior colleagues and trainees. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc. Audiology with undergraduate Audiological clinical qualification recognised by the British Academy of Audiology or equivalent experience
  • Understanding and competence in specialist audiology practitioner activities acquired through audiology specific postgraduate training or equivalent level of knowledge (e.g. Post-graduate Audiological clinical qualification recognised by the British Academy of Audiology (e.g. CAC or relevant HTS modules or STP)
  • Registered with RCCP (Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists) as an Audiologist or Registered/Working towards registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) as Clinical Scientist
Desirable criteria
  • MSc. Audiology
  • M-level modules in Audiology or equivalent
  • Post M-level Audiological Clinical qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of assessment of communication needs including hearing status
  • Recent experience in complex hearing aid fitting and verification to adults
  • Recent experience in tinnitus management
  • Experience of performing paediatric audiology assessments with school age children
  • Experience of assisting in audio vestibular test procedures
  • Experience of participation in clinical audit and service development
