Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse on the Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU) in Glangwili General Hospital.
The Clinical Decisions Unit comprises 24 beds and an Ambulatory Care Unit comprising 10 chairs. Patients with a wide range of medical problems present to CDU to be assessed and treated.
This is an ideal opportunity to develop new skills and gain a wide range of managerial experience thereby furthering your career. You will be expected to ensure a high standard of care is delivered for our patients and work closely with the multidisciplinary team within a positive and challenging environment.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to lead the team with a strong emphasis on keeping the patients at the centre of everything we do.
The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic team member and role model.
Main duties of the job
To combine excellent clinical practice with day to day shift coordination
To undertake leadership and management responsibilities in support of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse
To continually support and work in conjunction with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
To provide supervisory management and leadership skills in a clinical environment which is complex and pressurised.
To work alongside the nursing team members, providing support to junior colleagues in the provision of direct care.
To provide leadership and role modelling in the development and mentorship of new and other staff.
To demonstrate the Health Board’s values in everything that you do in the work environment.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Part 1)
- Current NMC Registration
- Bachelor degree (or equivalent experience)
- Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development / experience and a willingness to undertake appropriate post graduate diploma level study)
- Bronze IQT
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification ( or equivalent experience)
- Recognised management qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2015)
- Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
- Experience of running a ward/area/department
- Experience of working with pre-registration nursing / midwifery students
- Experience of formal /informal teaching and of mentoring pre-registration nursing or midwifery students.
- Understanding of wider nursing and health care related agenda
