Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic dietitian to join our well respected community dietetic team in Carmarthenshire, as an experienced dietitian for community and integrated care.

This post  offers an ideal opportunity for a dietitian looking to develop their clinical skills, or an existing experienced dietitian that would like to specialise in an acute dietetic role. The post-holder will fully embed themselves as part of a wider MDT, supporting embedding nutrition/hydration as part of models of care and driving forward innovation.  The post-holder base is Glangwili Hospital  and we welcome applicants who would like to discuss flexible working opportunities, in terms of the way the hours are worked.

Main duties of the job

Join our supportive and forward-thinking team delivering high-quality dietetic care across acute and outpatient services. You will use your specialist knowledge and clinical judgement to manage a varied, often complex caseload, contributing to multidisciplinary decision-making and ensuring seamless, evidence-based nutrition care throughout the patient journey. You’ll also take ownership of your workload while supporting junior colleagues to deliver an efficient service.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in improving patient outcomes and ensuring compassionate, inclusive care. You will use your strong communication skills to handle sensitive and complex discussions, adapting your approach to meet individual patient needs and overcoming barriers to understanding. You will also support the development of others through supervision, teaching, and everyday leadership.

Alongside clinical duties, you will contribute to service improvement, audit, and education, helping to shape the future of dietetic care. Maintaining high standards of documentation and using data to drive quality improvement, you will be part of a team committed to innovation, learning, and delivering the best possible care for patients.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration with a Degree in Dietetics.
  • Specialist clinical knowledge of acute adult nutritional care and dietetics including nutritional support and clinically assisted nutrition; qualifications acquired through specialist training to post graduate diploma level or equivalent clinical experience
  • Completed Clinical Supervisory Skills training or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply evidence-base to inform dietetic care
  • Working knowledge of professional and clinical guidance and policy relevant to acute dietetics / the specialist area.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodology in practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Completed the BDA PENG programme.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in acute dietetics within the NHS or similar health care establishment.
  • Consolidated and broad experience of managing a complex and varied clinical caseload using established clinical reasoning.
  • Planning and delivery of clinical knowledge-based dietetic and nutrition education and training.
  • Participation in project / quality improvement / development / clinical audit work, with demonstrable outcomes.
  • Student training.
  • Interpreting evidence into clinical practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering clinical supervision
  • Delegation to unregistered staff.
  • Member of a professional network or specialist group.

  • Able to travel to provide specialist support / cross site cover.
