Job overview

As the Assistant Head Corporate Reporting, you will be the lead point of contact for the Corporate Reporting team and key responsibilities will include:

1. Senior role for delivering the Finance Directorate Corporate Reporting and Financial Planning agenda.

2. Deliver key monthly reporting outputs right first time with supporting commentary, both internally and externally to the organisation.

3. Support the finance elements of the Annual Planning process.

4. Responsible for the management of the team’s work programmes.

Supporting the Deputy Head of Corporate Reporting, you will complete external and internal reporting requirements, such as Welsh Government monitoring return, Public Board and Finance and Performance Committee financial reports. 

You will be required to have a CCAB or CIMA qualification.

Main duties of the job

You will be solely responsible for the completion of specific requirements within the submissions and will complete and communicate these reports, either in writing or verbally, whilst upholding the highest professional standards, due to contents of reporting containing highly politically sensitive information.

You will also support the Head and Deputy Head of Corporate Reporting, in coordinating the Annual planning process within the Finance department, producing the outputs required for Direct Management Team review.

Other tasks will include:

  • Undertaking regular reviews of processes within Finance and project managing the corporate reporting agenda.
  • Contributing to the positive culture, governance, and control arrangements of the team, through maintaining current working practices and leading the team by example, whilst developing and implementing new continuous change improvements. 
  • Managing the finance timetables and supporting the constructive challenge across all teams of processes, procedures and information in an independent, unbiased & transparent manner.
  • Leading on the provision of complex analysis including various staff group pay award modelling calculations, macroeconomic inflationary analysis and modelling for inclusion in the Health Board annual plan submission, providing the Board with a range of options.

  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • CCAB or CIMA qualification
  • Experience at management level with proven professional and managerial experience and expertise.
  • Knowledge of integrated financial systems
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Knowledge of Oracle System Accounting

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of communicating, in writing and verbally, highly politically sensitive information to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of managing & mentoring staff with the ability to lead and motivate
  • Experience of delivering within challenging deadlines
  • Previous experience of working with substantial data sets
Desirable criteria
  • Previous financial experience within the NHS, Public Sector or a large complex organisation
  • Experience of managing change and associated behaviours

  • Able to work flexible hours around key reporting milestones
  • Able to travel between sites and to All Wales meetings in a timely manner
