Job overview

The Band 7 Clinical Lead Physiotherapist provides clinical, professional and operational leadership within the Children and Young People's Physiotherapy Service. The post holder is responsible for delivering a highly specialist physiotherapy service to children and young people with a range of developmental, neurological, musculoskeletal and long-term conditions, ensuring care is evidence based, safe and person centred.

The Clinical Lead is responsible for supporting the delivery of service objectives, quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance and professional standards across the service. They provide clinical leadership and expert advice to physiotherapy colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, supporting the development of best practice and consistent service delivery.

The role is based in Carmarthenshire, Wales' largest county, offering a unique mix of vibrant towns, rural communities and beautiful coastline. Main duties of the job

As a key specialist within the Children's Physiotherapy Service, you will play a leading role in delivering high-quality physiotherapy care for children and young people across Hywel Dda University Health Board. This is an exciting opportunity to influence service development, provide clinical leadership and support workforce development within a multidisciplinary team.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical and professional leadership within specialist paediatric physiotherapy services.
  • Developing and maintaining high standards of evidence-based practice.
  • Supporting the development of physiotherapists and support staff through training, supervision and learning.
  • Working collaboratively with children, young people, families, education providers and partner agencies to improve outcomes and service delivery.
  • Providing specialist advice and support for children and young people with complex needs.
  • Leading quality improvement, audit, governance and service development activities.
  • Managing a complex clinical caseload, delivering specialist assessment, intervention and evaluation.
  • Supporting staff and student development through supervision, mentoring and appraisal.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of Children's Physiotherapy Services.

This role is ideal for an experienced paediatric physiotherapist who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and driving innovation within community physiotherapy services.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration as recognised by HCPC.
  • Significant accredited post graduate specialist physiotherapy courses within relevant clinical area.
  • Advanced training to Master’s level.
Desirable criteria
  • MSc within relevant specialty
  • Post-graduate qualification up to post grad diploma level in relevant area
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Clinical Education Training Course
  • Member of the CSP
  • Evidence of leadership courses/ qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-graduate experience; including relevant experience in specialist field.
  • Managing a complex caseload using an advanced clinical reasoning process
  • Significant experience working as an autonomous practitioner
  • Significant experience in multi-agency team working within specialist area
  • Therapeutic handling and risk assessments
  • Direct involvement with carers and families
  • Evidence of supporting service compliance with clinical governance requirements.
  • Leadership of clinical networks/ clinical practice groups
  • Experience in assisting in leading service developments
  • Experience in staff development
  • Experience in presenting within clinical area
