Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Podiatrist/Orthotist with a proven track record in innovation to fulfil the role of Deputy Head of Podiatry/Orthotics Manager in Hywel Dda Health Board.

The successful candidate must have substantial clinical experience in Podiatry service and demonstrable up to date experience of advanced practice in clinical work.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing professional leadership and management of staff within the department, ensuring that all services are delivered to recognised national and Health Care standards.
  • Assist the Head of Service with the strategic development, modernisation, and innovation of the service and lead its implementation within a variety of settings, working closely with key stakeholders and partners
  • deputise for the Head of Service at both operational and strategic levels within the Health Board and with local partners as required.
  • Work with the Head of Service and other service leads to ensure that all policies, procedures, and financial processes for the service are in line with national standards and are implemented equitably across the service.
  • Manage a clinical caseload of clients with complex needs at an advanced clinical level using evidence-based practice.
  • Lead the clinical governance agenda within the department, promoting clinically effective practice and adherence to HCPC/professional 
    standards.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 99 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Podiatric Master’s Degree qualification (clinical / management) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
  • Registered member of Health and Care Professions Council, Registered member of Royal College of Podiatry and knowledge of professional standards and codes of conduct and their practical application
  • Completion of Management qualification or equivalent evidence of management development e.g. leadership/coaching/mentoring
  • Detailed evidence of highly specialist knowledge within a specific clinical area of Podiatric Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Understanding of financial processes
  • Knowledge and evidence of service development, policy, planning and implementing national and local service policies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial clinical experience in Podiatry service including experience as a team lead/clinical lead/manager
  • Experience in developing clinical governance strategies for whole team/service
  • Demonstrable up to date experience of advanced practice in clinical work
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research experience or published work
  • Experience in workforce development and skill mix
