Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Clinical Neurophysiology Team.

Applications are invited from efficient and suitably qualified individuals for the post of a part time Senior Medical Secretary to work 22.5 hours in Glangwilli General Hospital on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate's working days would be Monday - Wednesday only to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

Working 22.5 hours per week, the successful candidate will be required to support the delivery of a comprehensive and quality secretarial service to the Consultants and Neurophysiology team.

You will undertake a wide-range of duties including receipt and distribution of mail, audio transcription, and uploading highly sensitive reports to hospital databases, maintaining confidentiality at all times.  You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work.  You must be able to work on your initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills. 

Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail coupled with proven secretarial skills and previous experience of medical terminology is essential.  You will be required to use the Health Board’s patient database system and other relevant IT packages.  

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification (e.g. A Levels, AS Levels, NVQ3) or equivalent demonstrable experience of administrative/office skills and knowledge plus experience of a full range of duties working in an administrative/office environment
  • Knowledge of Medical/Healthcare Terminology
Desirable criteria
  • Secretarial training
