Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic experienced stoma nurse to join the current colorectal service as the team lead in stoma care.  The post holder will work very closely with the Colorectal Cancer CNS team and Colorectal Surgeons in need for stoma formation. The stoma nurses in Hywel Dda care for patients before and after emergency/elective colorectal surgery.  This is a diverse role involving a significant amount of clinical care, which is delivered within acute/community hospitals, nurse led clinics, patient's homes and nursing/residential homes. Advice is also provided by telephone to patient, carers and GPs.  The successful applicant must possess significant post-registration experience, possess good communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy teaching, which is a major focus of this role.

The base location would be at Glangwilli General Hospital, Carmarthen but with an expectation to travel to the other hospital sites and have the ability to travel to all areas of the UHB in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a team in providing specialist advice and nursing care for patients in the acute/community setting and nurse led clinics.

Provide support for patients undergoing stoma surgery for both benign and malignant disease and to assist in the adjustment to altered body image and function.

Promote patient independence in stoma care, optimising potential for recovery and rehabilitation to as near normal lifestyle as possible.

Acts as a resource for health care professionals, participating in teaching of patients and staff in clinical areas, aiming to improve and maintain quality standards of care for all stoma patients.

Provides specialist clinical advice for patients, their families and health care professionals

Post holder also must involve with leadership and management within the stoma team.

Post holder should be involved in service development, service review, audit and educating staff in wards.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
