Job overview
We are looking for an experienced senior registered practitioner to be part of our friendly and enthusiastic theatre team in Glangwili General Hospital (GGH). GGH has a large theatre complex which runs 24-hour NCEPOD, emergency obstetrics, and trauma services, and elective theatres, including a day theatre provision for adults and paediatrics.
The purpose of the role of the Theatre Manager is to provide professional leadership and management of all resources within the Operating Theatres, ensuring visibility, accessibility and support. This will include ensuring effective professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary Theatre Practitioner and Healthcare Support Worker team in order to
secure and assure the highest standards of care; ensuring the availability of the appropriate support services; ensuring a quality service and maintaining a high standard of infection control; and providing accessible and supportive presence to whom patients and their families and staff can turn for assistance, advice, support and early resolution of concerns.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a credible an experienced leader and possess the ability to empower and develop all Theatre Practitioners working within the clinical environment and be accountable for the assurance of high professional standards.
As a senior registered practitioner and team leader, you will support a team of band 7 practitioners in the daily running of the theatre department and provide expert clinical leadership, whilst being accountable for one's own professional actions and be responsible for the effective running of the service.
The post holder will have the responsibility autonomy to provide expert levels of practice and knowledge, promote evidence-based care within peri-operative practice and work within personal, professional and corporate boundaries.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Level 1 and current NMC Registration OR Registered Operating Department Practitioner and current HCPC Registration
- Relevant post graduate courses and/or experience within specialties involved with the position to master’s level
- Evidence of continuous management development.
- Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of NMC / HCPC registration and CPD requirements
- Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional practice, compliance, standards and the wider NHS.
- A thorough understanding of the role and its purpose of within the organisation.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching/ Assessment/ Mentoring qualification
- Improving Quality Together (IQT Bronze/ Silver)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant clinical experience in Theatre and DSU services.
- Experience of an NHS acute sector middle-management role
- Experience of managing change
- Proven experience of clinical leadership at a senior management level.
- Ability to control expenditure to a budget and develop adequate controls for doing so
- Direct experience of major service and organisation change and knowledge of how to navigate a service through a successful change programme.
- Experience of managing staff and working with staff Trades Unions / staff representatives
