Main duties of the job

The Future Workforce Engagement Officer will:

  • Independently manage a caseload of future workforce candidates (volunteers and work experience) throughout the participate journey from induction to evaluation.
  • Be responsible for ensuring a high- quality experience for all work experience and volunteering participants, proactively identifying 
    placement opportunities, and promote the organisation’s/ Future Workforce mission and talent pipeline across diverse platforms.
  • This role requires a high level of administrative coordination, including maintain clear and effective communication with all parties 
    involved via email, telephone, Microsoft Teams and face to face interaction.
  • Build and maintain relationships within the acute site base and surrounding area to include community teams, to facilitate future 
    workforce pathways and initiatives.
  • Become a well-known face within the counties Health Board provision for our existing and future workforce.
  • Manage operational issues and handle sensitive concerns in line with Future Workforce policies and procedures.
  • Integrating volunteers into natural NHS service delivery models with a view of increasing patient experience, alongside the experience 
    of visitors, relatives and careers through a range of volunteering opportunities i.e. Meet and Greet, shop trolley etc. 

 

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent experience within workforce development e.g. education, work experience, careers, voluntary services.
  • An understanding of the locality served by the Health Board and its social and economic character, including barriers faced by volunteers and work experience candidates in accessing opportunities
Desirable criteria
  • Project Management qualification
  • Advice and Guidance or Careers Coaching qualifications or experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in building and facilitating internal and external network, partnerships and relationships
  • Proven engagement experience and exceptional communication skills
  • IT skills including use of Microsoft Office
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within NHS
  • Experience delivering training
  • Careers advice and development experience
  • Experience in working with third sector services

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work on own initiative, whilst being an effective member of a team
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
  • Flexible approach to the needs of the service
