An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Breast team. As a Lead Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be accountable for all clinical nurse specialist and the associated performance, finance, service development, standards and quality of care delivered within your designated speciality. As the lead nurse you will need engagement with all Corporate and Divisional objectives

Through strong visible leadership and role modelling you will ensure patients are treated with compassion, dignity and respect. You will support the Associate Director of Nursing, Matron and Business Performance Manager to deliver Safe & Effective Services by translating the organisations vision and values into meaningful actions for teams
to respond to our patient’s needs. This will be supported by implementation of the Nursing & Midwifery & Educational & Research Strategies and taking actions to prevent hospital acquired harms

Main duties of the job

Providing professional and clinical leadership within a designated area and lead on specific Professional & Service projects as required.

As a Registered Nurse you will be working at an advanced level undertaking tasks that have been previously undertaken by medical and/or technical staff. As a Practitioner you will practice autonomously and also within a defined team / multi-disciplinary team to provide advice and support to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals, across both secondary and primary care and in accordance with local guidelines and policies.

You will formulate clinical decisions and treatment plans within local guidelines /policy to manage acute and chronic illness and will respond to actual and potential health problems appropriately. You will undertake advanced practice procedures and tasks which will provide holistic nursing care and therapeutic nursing interventions.

Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.                                                                 

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.​​

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN/RSCN Diploma or Degree
  • NMC Registered
  • MSc in Health, Quality or leadership related or working towards within 2 academic years of appointment
  • A recognised qualification in cancer or Breast care nursing e.g ENB A11 or ENB N09 or equivalent
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification 998/997 /mentorship
  • Management Qualification (ISM) or relevant management experience
  • Extensive experience at senior level/ leadership role

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of advanced clinical, psychological, and social needs of patients accessing our breast services
  • Good understanding of strategic health economy targets for the delivery of breast care services
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced communication training
  • Experience of leading patient involvement/patient feedback
