Job overview

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Data Analyst to join our proactive Information Services team on a permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about data and its role in improving healthcare. You will play a key part in delivering accurate, insightful analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making across the Trust. You’ll also work closely with Business Intelligence developers and divisional teams to promote a self-service culture and ensure data integrity and quality.

Flexible and part-time working arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Provide timely, accurate, and meaningful data analysis from clinical, workforce, and financial systems.

Support the eRostering team with the full lifecycle of reporting — from requirement gathering to solution delivery.

Work collaboratively with Divisional Analysts and the BI Development team to enhance and automate the Trust’s self-service reporting suite.

Lead on specific data and analytics projects, liaising with stakeholders and developers to plan and deliver reporting solutions using tools such as SQL, Power BI, SSRS, and Excel

Identify and resolve data quality issues and support the implementation of robust data validation processes.

Support and maintain the Trust’s Reporting Portal, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, and aligned with user needs.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Provide high-quality analysis and reporting from a range of Trust systems (patient, financial, workforce) using appropriate analytical and presentation techniques.

  • Support Divisional Analysts in delivering expert, value-added performance analysis to aid operational and strategic decision-making.

  • Work closely with the BI Development and Data Warehouse teams to ensure efficient, automated, and self-service reporting solutions.

  • Lead on specific data and analytics projects, including gathering requirements, attending user groups, and managing delivery plans.

  • Develop and promote reporting products to support performance indicators, benchmarking, and outcome measures.

  • Analyse data from multiple sources, challenge inconsistencies, and apply new tools and techniques to support understanding.

  • Ensure all reporting outputs are accurate, documented, and meet departmental quality standards.

  • Maintain and support the Trust’s Reporting Portal, ensuring accessibility and alignment with user needs.

Data Quality and Governance

  • Identify and escalate data quality issues, supporting improvements in coding, validation, and duplication.

  • Promote a data quality culture across the Trust to ensure complete and accurate information for reporting and decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with all data protection, confidentiality, and information governance policies.

Teamworking and Leadership

  • Share knowledge and provide advice and guidance to colleagues across the Information Services team.

  • Act as a mentor to junior staff and support their development.

  • Deputise for Senior Information Analysts when required, including representing the team in meetings.

Learning and Development

  • Develop and maintain proficiency in SQL, SSRS, Power BI, Excel, and other relevant tools.

  • Take responsibility for personal development through training, appraisal, and maintaining a professional portfolio.

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent relevant experience

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Strong level of experience and expertise in information analysis
  • Expert level of knowledge in the use of MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with complex computerised information systems.
  • Experience of production of analytical information and formal written reporting.
  • Familiarity with BI analytics tools, such as PowerBI, SSRS, Qlik.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection legislation and patient confidentiality agenda.
Desirable criteria
  • High level understanding and knowledge of other relevant Trust IT systems and external IT systems relevant to Clinical Information.
  • Previous experience of working in an NHS Information environment
  • Knowledge of the information needs and processes of the clinical and operational functions within an acute hospital.
  • Integrated dashboard scope, design and development.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • A logical and analytical approach to problem solving demonstrated in an information systems environment
  • Good organisation skills relating to creating and maintaining electronic filing systems, locating data and information, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work to own initiative.
  • In depth analytical skills
  • Expert knowledge of the NHS Data Manual, Information Standards, data flows and statistical returns gained through experience in an NHS informatics role
  • Ability to use lateral thinking for complex problem solving.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and produce work to deadlines in routine and pressurised environment.
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with benchmarking & comparative analysis tools.
  • Experience of communicating analysis to a wider audience
  • SQL query writing skills.
