Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Dietetic Clinical Support Worker to join our friendly and dynamic team at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post will be based at our community site at Langbaurgh House, Guisborough.

Our mission in the community Dietetic team is to use a patient-centred approach to make a meaningful impact by educating, empowering and supporting. We enable people to feel seen and heard.

Please note if you do not have the qualifications or experience marked as essential for a Band 3 role, you will be appointed at a Band 2. 

Band 2 requirements – willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.

Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)

Care certificate

Level 3 vocational qualification

or

Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and  clinical care duties

and/or

Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;

- Theoretical knowledge

- Experience of a range of care and related procedures

- clinical observations

- knowledge of relevant legislation

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications. 

Main duties of the job

Key aspects of this role include assessing the nutritional needs of non-complex patients with a range of medical conditions, devising programmes of dietetic care under dietetic supervision, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of dietary intervention and providing regular feedback to the supervising dietitian. This post is ideal for a person with experience of working in a healthcare environment with an interest in nutrition. You will be given supervision and support from experienced Dietitians to enable you to develop your skills.

It is vital that you have strong and confident communication skills when liaising with patients, carers and relatives, and the ability to develop good working relationships with a wide range of professionals working across health and social care. This post also offers exciting opportunities for continued development in a well-established service.

Our service delivers care across 2 primary care hospitals and within community settings across the South Tees locality, therefore you will need to be able to travel independently between sites.

Working for our organisation

Our service covers The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton and the community localities of Hambleton and Richmond and Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland locality. The main office base for this post is in Guisborough. The community service uses Systmone, which facilitates mobile working. The clinical caseload will require a mix of face to face and virtual service provision.

Guisborough is a small market town in Teesside surrounded by beautiful countryside, market towns and villages and within easy reach of the coast. It is served by good travel networks; is within easy reach of the A1M motorway; cities such as Newcastle, Durham, York and Leeds are very accessible via the East Coast main line train service. We are also close to three international airports – Teesside, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff.  This training programme has been designed to support our staff in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills.  You will be expected to attend the following training sessions

After you complete these one and a half days of training, you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer a range of additional in-house courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Knowledge and Skills (Both)

Essential criteria
  • Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work.
  • Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies.
  • Working knowledge of STHFT policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING Band 3

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English GCSE A-C/4-9 or Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (https://www.enic-naric.net/)
  • Completion (at the point of start date or within the probationary period) of the WASP competencies and Trust face to face training session related to insulin administration, and/or oral medication administration, following the Trust approved standard operating procedure and policy. role.
