An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Associate Practitioner to join the Point of Care Testing team.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are working in partnership to provide a comprehensive Point of Care Testing service to their users.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is comprised of two sites; The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton which are approximately 22 miles apart.

North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust is also comprised of two sites; The University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool which are approximately 15 miles apart.

The candidate will be expected to work across both Trusts and all sites, in addition to smaller units within the community and primary care. 

Main duties of the job

The service manages multiple pieces of point of care testing equipment including Radiometer, Abbott and Siemens Blood Gas analysers, Nova Stat Strip Glucose and Ketone meters, Abbott and Roche Rapid PCR instruments for Covid-19, Flu and RSV testing, Urinalysis instruments, HbA1c testing instruments, and more.

Working under the direction of the Point of Care Testing Co-Ordinator the post holder will assist in the day to day operation of Point of Care Testing, maintaining devices throughout the service, troubleshooting problems as they arise and provide advice and support to users. They will also be expected to deliver training to healthcare professionals of all levels, perform internal and external quality assessment testing on instruments and record keeping.

The post holder must be able to work autonomously; both as part of a small team and on their own, with excellent organisational and communication skills. An aptitude for problem solving is essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.
