 The Clinical Measurement Service (CMS) in Medical Physics at James Cook University Hospitals have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated person to join our team.

The Healthcare Science Assistant Higher Level role, supports the Clinical Scientists and Technologists to meet the departments clinical and administrative needs. As a team, we support the trust across a range of specialties in sleep medicine, neuro and spinal surgery,  peri-operative medicine, dermatology, urology and the innovation team.

The role is mainly based at the James Cook University Hospital, however successful candidates on occasion may be expected to work at the Friarage Hospital

Main duties of the job

Within Clinical Measurement, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and managing the home sleep study clinics. These are the first diagnostic test for patients across the Tees Valley region referred into the local Sleep Service for the region. The role involves face to face clinical activity to issue the sleep monitors.  The day to day running of the home oximetry service includes, but is not exhaustive of, scheduling patient appointments, issuing and preparing equipment, and the production of statistical and diagnostic reports. 

The post holder is also responsible for providing essential reception, clerical and administrative support to CMS and the wider Medical Physics department and providing support to our quality management representative in managing the Quality Management System for CMS. They will assist with the Quality Assurance program provided by CMS, as required.  The job will also be to update our healthcare science information systems, (for example, patient test requests and records) and deliver on administrative projects for CMS and Medical Physics.

It is essential that you have good communication and IT skills, and the post holder is expected to work independently with some supervision. Whilst at all times the post holder is expected to observe and maintain a high standard of practice and abide by the NHS values

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures and software programmes
  • Able to prioritise own workload effectively and to concentrate, carrying out tasks accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to deal with occasional emotional or distressing situations either face to face or over the telephone

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant secretarial/administrative experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in developing and maintaining databases and producing reports
  • Experience of using a computerised appointments system

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 5 GCSES or equivalent including English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate qualification
