Job overview
We are seeking to recruit a Mechanical/Electronic/Electrical Engineer to work in the Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics, based at The James Cook University Hospital.

The Department comprises 44 scientific and technical staff. The department prides itself on delivering state-of the-art treatment techniques to our patient population and research and development is actively encouraged. This post is part of a team of 13 physicists, 3 technologists and 4 Engineers working in radiotherapy physics.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be multi skilled with electronics/mechanical engineering as a primary discipline and should be enthusiastic, and highly motivated person, joining our existing Radiotherapy Engineering Group (REG), to help maintain and repair our state-of-the-art X-Ray Linear Accelerators and CT imaging equipment
The department has six Elekta linacs (all equipped with FFF technology) and will soon install a new kV unit. Pre–treatment imaging consists of two Siemens wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software. Treatment plans are produced using Raystation and Monaco. We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit.

Essential criteria
- Numeracy and accuracy skills of a high order.
- Good IT Skills.
- The ability to meet deadlines, self-motivated, enthusiastic and pride in producing high quality results.
- Evidence of Manufacturer Training.
- Multi-disciplinary working experience.
- Knowledge of computer network administration.
- Knowledge of high voltage and high-power control systems.
- Manufacturer training on a large range of radiotherapy products.
Desirable criteria
- Ability to respond calmly, and professionally in the event of emergency.
- Knowledge of networking and software upgrade experience.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree or (HND/HNC + experience) in Engineering
- Participating in a program for continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of attendance at meetings or training courses intended to extend the breadth and depth of knowledge.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of good engineering skills and completed project work.
- Evidence of written reports and presentations.
- Highly specialised data analysis skills
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills

- Working in a clinical environment.
