Post CCT Fellowship – Critical Care Medicine

Consultant

Job overview

This post has been developed to allow its holder to attain the required skills to work at the level of a critical care consultant in the future. The holder will work towards attainment of clinical and professional competencies aligned with the Stage 3 ICM training curriculum, whilst also working towards completion of a postgraduate examination in critical care.

The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid license to practice and be on the specialist register for Anaesthesia or other allied speciality or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

Fellows will initially share a rota pattern with the departmental middle grades before working towards increasingly independent working and supervised on calls over the period of the fellowship. Four consultants cover the units during the daytime between 8-6pm with two consultants covering until 9pm.

There is a strong Consultant presence out of hours. The current night time on call frequency is at present 1:14 for full time consultants. Night time on call is resident until 10pm 7 days per week and non-resident thereafter dependent on clinical requirements.

Working for our organisation

The department is supported by a strong middle grade tier comprising of highly experienced Specialty Trainees in ICM, Clinical Fellows, MTI Fellows and Anaesthetic trainees. We have 2 middle grade doctors resident overnight.

The resident rota contains an expanding number of ACCP’s (8 fully qualified with 2 in training), speciality trainees, foundation doctors and trust doctors.
