Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Consultant

Job overview

Consultant in: Diabetes and Endocrinology

10 PA Contract

We have an exciting opportunity for a new consultant post in Diabetes and Endocrinology.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, dynamic consultant team who strive to be regional leaders in the delivery of high quality, compassionate, patient-centred, multi-disciplinary care in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism, including teaching, training and research.

Main duties of the job

This is a 10 PA post with a primary base at The James Cook University Hospital however the post holder will be required to work across the University Hospital Tees Group structure. The post holder will undertake clinics in general diabetes, endocrinology and lipids, including pump and young person’s clinics, foot care and obesity clinics.

There is a 1 in 5.5 Physician of the Week commitment to back of house inpatient care for people with diabetes, endocrine and general medical problems. This entails reviewing patients on the diabetes and endocrine wards each day for 7 days (Monday-Sunday).

There is also a 1:6.5 diabetes and endocrinology on call rota. This is to provide expert advice to other consultants, senior doctors and resident doctors. This usually takes the form of telephone advice and there is not an expectation of hospital attendance during out of hours.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, MRCP (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

Working for our organisation

Since the autumn of 2019, we have been empowering our clinicians to take the decisions about how we manage our resources and deliver care across our hospitals and services – supported by our amazing scientific teams, administrative, support staff and volunteers. This is important – not just for our local communities in Teesside and North Yorkshire but for patients across the North East and beyond who rely on us as a specialist centre and regional major trauma centre.

By enabling clinicians to come together to shape and deliver the care they want for their patients, we were rated by our colleagues in the 2020 NHS Staff Survey as the most improved Trust in the country. This clinically-led approach has been at the heart of our response to COVID-19 and the overriding goal set by our experienced clinicians to help keep colleagues, patients and service users safe
