Trainee Orthodontic Therapist

Job overview
This is a developmental post and successful applicant will start as Band 5.
Successful candidate would be appointed as Band 5 Trainee Orthodontic Therapist and following a set Orthodontic Therapy training programme would then progress to Band 6 Orthodontic Therapist following completion of the programme and any qualifications/experience required.
Successful applicant would then progress to Band 7 Orthodontic Therapist following completion of the programme and any qualifications/experience required.
The post-holder will carry out orthodontic treatment for patients under the prescription and supervision of an Orthodontic Specialist (most likely Consultant Orthodontist). All treatment carried out will be within the Orthodontic Therapy scope of practice as determined by the General Dental Council (GDC).
The post-holder will enrol and participate in an appropriate Orthodontic Therapy training programme with a view to obtaining the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy (or equivalent) at the end of the training course. This will enable them to be entered on to the GDC register as an Orthodontic Therapist.
Upon satisfactory completion of the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy, the post holder will be eligible to progress to a Band 6 role. Further pay progression will be considered subject to experience and satisfactory progress and appraisal.
Delivery of orthodontic treatment under the supervision of the Consultant Orthodontists within the Orthodontic Therapy scope of practice.
Main duties of the job
Provision of a full range of orthodontic care (within the Orthodontic Therapy scope of practice) under the supervision of a Consultant Orthodontist.
The post holder will ensure that they are up to date with their continuing professional development (as set out by the General Dental Council) and participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training programme.

Essential criteria
- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC) (Band 5,6,7)
- Dental nursing qualification/ dental technology qualification/ dental therapy qualification(Band 5,6,7)
- Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or Maths & English (English Language or English Literature) GCSE A-C/4-9 or Maths & English O Level/GCE A-C or Maths & English CSE Grade 1 or NARIC/ENIC which compares the qualification to UK GCSE (https://www.enic-naric.net/)(Band 5,6,7)
- Evidence of training and qualification of Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy (Band 6,7)
- Specialist training and experience of varied patient groups with complex needs (Band 6,7)
