We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and highly motivated Nurse who can demonstrate motivation, an enthusiasm to learn and develop clinical skill. Be a team player within our established team on a full-time basis.
Having the ability to engage clinically with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. You will have / develop in depth proven clinical knowledge guiding the clinical team to work within this framework and CNS pathways. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to sensitively manage change and time.
As a band 7 nurse or a developing Band 6-7 you should act as a role model, follow and promote the TRUST values and use underpinning strategies to support the Trusts strategic objectives.
The post holder will be trained as a clinical practitioner to be part the nurse-led service for individuals and be part of the acute services on a day to day basis
Please note, if you do not meet the Band 7 essential person specification requirements, we will consider appointing as a Banf 6 until all competencies are met.
Main duties of the job
The successful person will be approachable, motivated, aspiring, kind and caring They must work collaboratively with the rest of the Head and Neck team. and promote high standards of care.
You will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills along with clinical management experience. You will have a positive can-do attitude and always strive for the best for your patients and wider working team.
To provide a comprehensive service for patients within the specialist and to provide direct patient care for both the inpatient (The James Cook University Hospital) and outpatient care setting and holistic support in helping improve quality of life by educating the patient on the management and control of symptoms and offering support following diagnosis through the entirety of the patient pathway.
To be a resource for other health professionals.
To work within a team of head and neck cancer specialist nurses accommodating flexibility to provide full-service cover, to always deliver appropriate care/support to both patients and clinicians across the service(s), within each directorate.

Knowledge and Skills (Both)
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current management of patients with cancer
Desirable criteria
- In depth knowledge of Head & Neck Cancer specialty
- Knowledge of national guidance relating to Head and Neck cancer services, and NHS Cancer Plan
- Knowledge of current clinical and nursing research related to Head and Neck cancers
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING (Both)
Essential criteria
- NMC Level 1 Registration
- BSc Degree (Health Related) or equivalent qualification or training and experience
Desirable criteria
- Counselling skills training / Advanced Communication Skills qualification
- Post registration courses in ENT/ Head and Neck Cancer Care
- Clinical skills qualification or willing to work towards
- Prescribing qualification or willing to work towards
- Level 2 psychology training
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING (Band 6)
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience at in cancer/ palliative care or associated specialty
- Teaching certificate/MIP or working towards
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING (Band 7)
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience at Masters level in cancer/palliative care or associated specialty.

- Ability to demonstrate mastery skills, clinically and educationally or willing to work towards
