Dietitian

Band 5

Job overview

1.0wte Permanent post (rotational)

1.0wte 12 month fixed term post (maternity leave cover)

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly and dynamic team at The South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We have rotational posts based across our 3 hospital bases. Our service covers the 2 main hospital sites - the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton and The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, in addition to our community services across the Redcar and Cleveland community locality and the Hambleton & Richmond community locality.

Due to the nature of some of the rotations you will need to be able to travel across the South Tees and Hambleton and Richmondshire localities.
Our service bases are in an ideal location surrounded by beautiful countryside, market towns and villages and within easy reach of the East Coast, North Yorkshire Moors and Scotland. We are served by good travel networks, within easy reach of the A1M motorway; cities such as Newcastle, Durham, York and Leeds are very accessible via the East Coast main line train service. We are also close to three international airports – Teesside, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle.
Hospital accommodation may be available on the James Cook University Hospital site in Middlesbrough, should it be required.

Main duties of the job

The Band 5 rotational posts offer an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of specialities.
The acute rotations include experience within specialities such as stroke, surgery, neurology, cardiology, general and respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, oncology, older people’s medicine and spinal injuries.
The community rotations include nutritional support, diabetes, enteral feeding, gastroenterology and paediatrics in community clinics, community wards and care homes. You will be involved in the delivery of group education sessions to patients and their carers.
The postholder will also be regularly involved in the education of other health care professionals, care home staff and support workers.
You will be given supervision and support from experienced Dietitians to enable you to develop your skills and gain experience in specialist areas. You will undertake a one year preceptorship programme.
We encourage staff to get involved in exploring new ways of working and service developments, with opportunities for CPD along the way.
After a period of 6 months, and following clinical supervisory skills training, you would be fully involved in the training of student Dietitians.

Working for our organisation
