Job overview

This post is to provide a clinical administration/typing service based at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and Friarage Hospital based in Northallerton.

The post holder will provide an effective administration support service providing excellent communication skills and good customer care.

The post holder will support the efficient processing of information and communication as required and ensure that clinical correspondence is accurately transcribed, within agreed timescales, in line with Trust Policy.

South Tees Hospitals is the largest hospital trust in the Tees Valley with two acute hospitals and services in a number of community hospitals.

The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a designated major trauma centre and provides all its specialties from one site which is unique for a hospital of its size. 

The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton is an essential part of our organisation and an important point of delivery for the community.  It is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country and has 189 inpatient beds.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Wanting to gain invaluable experience across a wide variety of roles

  • An excellent communicator with a high level of interpersonal skill
  • An accurate typist with OCR/RSA qualification or equivalent level typing qualification or experience
  • Able to type at an entry level of 50 words per minute, working towards 70 words per minute
  • Experienced in audio-typing (desirable)
  • Knowledgeable of Office, Outlook, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, E-mail and Internet
  • Able to demonstrate efficient and accurate word processing skills
  • Committed to personal development with evidence of this
  • Able to demonstrate diplomacy, tact and sensitivity
  • Aware of the importance of confidentiality

Working for our organisation

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Efficient and accurate word processing skills
  • Understanding of clerical processes
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a clinical setting Knowledge of hospital patient administration system
  • Understanding of a range of work procedures associated with outpatient clinic arrangements, secretarial office procedures and case note procedures ·
  • Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations and patient confidentiality
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • • GCSE’s English and Maths A-C or equivalent qualification or equivalent work experience
  • • NVQ 2 in Business Administration or equivalent experience or equivalent work experience

EXPERIENCE
