Job overview

We have a exciting opportunity for  a Speciality Doctor in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation to join the team at The Golden Jubilee Regional Spinal Cord Injury Centre at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The Trust hosts the North East and Yorkshire Spinal Cord Injury Managed Clinical Network, and is working with Pinderfields and Sheffield Spinal Cord Injury Centres to deliver new and innovative ways of service delivery to ensure the best patient care and outcomes.

The Spinal Cord Injuries Centre includes 4 level 2 HDU beds and 20 rehabilitation beds. Our Centre provides lifelong care and admits patients for a range of surgical treatments such as urological and plastic surgery treatment.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will deliver the highest clinical standards in the practice of spinal cord injuries. He/she will work within a large MDT managing spinal cord injured patients.

·         The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team responsible for the acute and ongoing rehabilitation needs of the patient group.

 ·         The post holder will provide day-to-day medical care for the centre, which includes a 4-bedded HDU and 20 progressive care beds.  This will include routine ward round, day to day care and admission of patients as necessary.  The post-holder will be expected to be routinely based within the centre.

 ·         The post holder will be expected to attend scheduled OPD sessions including outreach clinics, Multi-disciplinary meetings and case conferences as necessary and will have the practical skills necessary for the care of the spinal cord injured patient.

 ·         As a permanent member of the team, the post holder will be responsible for maintaining the database and audit systems and also the organisation of a weekly Grand Round.

 ·         This is not intended to be exhaustive.  The post holder will therefore be expected to adopt a flexible attitude towards these duties, which may (after discussion) have to be varied, subject to the needs of the Unit and in keeping with the general profile of the post.

·         On call for the Spinal Cord Injury Centre will be one in sixteen (from home).

Working for our organisation

The employing Trust for this post will be South Tees NHS Foundation Trust with the base site being The James Cook University Hospital Spinal Cord Injuries Centre. The Centre is one of only two based within a Major Trauma Centre with access to all services that may be required to support the lifelong care of spinal cord injured patients.
