Job overview

Applications are invited from competent, able practitioners who wish to provide dynamic support to the theatre Trauma and Orthopaedic team.

The operating department includes 16 in-patient theatres within the Division plus the Surgical Day Unit (3 GA theatres and Paediatric Day facility.

Trauma and Orthopaedic Scrub experience essential.

Out of hours and oncall cover required.

Main duties of the job

The theatres provide an operating service to the following clinical specialities: General Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology, Obstetrics, Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Maxilo-facial, Robotic Surgery, Neurosurgery, ENT and IVF.

There is also provision for 2 x dedicated emergency theatres and 2 x dedicated Trauma theatres within the complex.
The division is committed to staff development and offers an excellent competency based training package. Good communication and organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential to this post.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with NMC or ODP with HCPC
  • Nursing Degree/Diploma or ODP qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Recognisable teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Trauma & Orthopaedic experience
  • Experience working within an acute or community setting
  • Experience of Multi-disciplinary working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the theatre environment.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own work.
  • Good information technology skills.
  • Commitment to the needs of the service including a flexible and adaptable approach in the work environment/ work practices.
