A Locum Post to cover maternity leave: Consultant Obstetrician (10 PA) for a fixed term of 1 year starting from the 1st of October.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest foundation trusts in England and provides a wide range of services across different specialities, including a motivated, forward thinking, obstetrics, and gynaecology team, with more than thirty-five consultants working across different subspecialities.

•    The post holder will complement existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in Obstetrics & Maternal medicine.
•     The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid license to practice and be on the specialist register for Obstetrics & Gynecology or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
•    This is a locum post (10 PA)  .The post holder will join a team of 19 existing Obstetric Consultants and be part of a Maternal Medicine team of 7 consultants to form a larger team of 19 Consultants in Obstetrics based at the James Cook University Hospital. 

 

Main duties of the job

 Prospective applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within 6 months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

 The post is offered initially on a 10 PA basis and the post holder is expected to contribute to on call duties (4th on call, non-resident) supporting specialist resident doctors (second and third on call) and another junior resident doctor (first on call).

 18 consultants cover the unit during the daytime/ nighttime. A flexible rota design is on offer to complement the individual requirements of any post-holder. The consultant rota comprises LD (8am -8 pm) and nights cover (8pm -8am)

There is a strong consultant presence out of hours. The current nighttime on call frequency is at present 1:16 for full time consultants. Nighttime on call is resident until 2200 /7 days per week and non-resident thereafter dependent on clinical requirements.

The post includes Antenatal clinics – twice a week, Ward rounds , Caesarean section lists and Postnatal clinics  which all be included in the job plan.

The team is supported by a strong middle grade tier comprising of Specialty Trainees, MTI Fellows, trust grade medical staff, GP VTS trainees and Foundation doctors.

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical experience equivalent to completion of a formal training program in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • • Evidence of teaching/training junior medical staff and undergraduate students

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Full GMC registration
  • • Evidence of completion of formal training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • • Membership of RCOG or equivalent
  • • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of interview
Desirable criteria
  • • Qualifications in other specialist skill (Maternal medicine SST or ATSM/High Risk pregnancy/Labour ward ATSM)
  • • Educational Supervisor Training

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
  • • Ability to organise, prioritise, delegate, and manage Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GP’s, nurses and other agencies
