We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated HCPC registered therapist or NMC registered nurse to join our progressive lymphoedema team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. The post is based in an acute hospital setting delivering outpatient care Mon-Fri. The Lymphoedema service is progressive, forward thinking and committed to ongoing training, support and development of all team members. The Lymphoedema service provides specialist assessment and treatment to children and adults with both Primary and Secondary Lymphoedema and Lipoedema across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The applicant will work alongside our existing Lymphoedema team, the service is therapist led and is part of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Substantial post-graduate experience and evidence of post-graduate development is required, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work well, autonomously and as part of a team. Clinical experience in Lymphoedema care is advantageous, however this is also an excellent training opportunity for someone who demonstrates a real desire to follow a new pathway in a new speciality and additional training will be provided in order to fulfil the requirements of the post. Main duties of the job

The Lymphoedema Therapist will work as part of the wider therapy outpatients team, using specialist skills to diagnose and formulate treatment plans for patients with Primary and Secondary lymphoedema and enable patients to self manage their chronic condition.  You will have your own caseload of patients to support and follow up ensuring continuity of care.

Management will include compression garments, skincare and prevention of infection, exercise and weight management advice and self-lymphatic drainage. You will also work with the team to provide intensive lymphoedema treatment, including lymphoedema bandaging, manual lymphatic drainage, photobiomodulation and kinesiology taping.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy/ Physiotherapy/ Podiatry /Nursing or equivalent
  • HCPC or NMC registered
  • Evidence of post-registration training and development
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate Lymphoedema Training
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 18 months post qualification experience.
  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team, a good understanding of their roles and respect for the other professionals within the team.
  • Experience of managing teams
  • Experience of Service development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working independently in a patient centred environment
  • Experience working in any of the following: • Lymphoedema • Outpatients • Primary care • Palliative care • Tissue Viability • Dermatology

Specialist Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post-graduate education and development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of Rehabilitation and the promotion of patient self-management
  • Understanding of chronic illness management including self-care
  • Specialist level assessment skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills - empathy, negotiation, and motivation, presenting of complex facts in an understandable way, re-assurance, and support particularly to anxious people.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching (formal or informal).
  • Knowledge of Lymphoedema and its management.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to work flexibly and in highly stressful situations including the ability to manage distressing and emotive situations successfully (e.g. working with people recently diagnosed with life changing conditions).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
